La Union drivers to be trained as tourism frontliners

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, June 17 — A two-day seminar designed to create a pool of tour guides from among the local drivers will be held here from June 23-24 this year.

The Tourist Drivers Seminar was organized by the provincial government of La Union (PGLU) in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1.

It will be held at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Development Centere here, eyeing drivers of tricycle, tourist transport van and multi-cab as participants.

The tourism frontliners will be accredited by the DOT.

The course consists of combination of lectures and practical activities such as self-concept and mind binders, developing self-esteem, the art of driving, effective customer service, road safety and tourist destinations and spots in the province

It aims to equip participants with the theories, knowledge and practical skills to work as local tour guides and instills passion for tourism destination marketing.

This is also a great opportunity for the participants to promote the tourism industry of La Union and to realize the importance of proper handling of passengers.

The organizers will provide free meals and training kits during the first ever tourist drivers seminar prepared by the Provincial Information and Tourism Office (PITO). (PNA)
