MANILA. Jan, 21 (PNA) –The Gabriela Women's Party (GWP)on Thursday clarified that Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan remained a representative of and the national president of GWP until June 30 this year, despite her filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) as Davao City councilor.

GWP Rep. Emmi de Jesus aired this in response to what she claimed as incorrect statements being peddled by lawyer Harry Roque on Ilagan's alleged resignation.

“We fully support her bid for a local post and this does not in any way affect her stature and current position within our organization as national president and party list representative in Congress,” De Jesus said.

She said Atty. Minerva Lopez, GWP legal counsel also reiterated that provisions cited by Atty Roque in his allegations applied only for those who intend to run under the partylist system and not to candidates seeking elective office outside the party-list system.

Roque said Ilagan lost her remaining days as member of the House of Representatives after she filed her CoC as councilor of Davao City last October.

The counsel is citing section 15 of RA 7941 that any incumbent party-list who files certificate of candidacy using the local or national political party for the succeeding election should forfeit his present position. She filed her candidacy under the local party of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte,

“It is our hope that this clarifies and consequently corrects any misconceptions made by Atty Roque as we further our advocacies and embark yet again in the 2016 national elections,” sde Jesus said. (PNA)
