City distributes 570 hearing aids

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Dec. 7 –- Exactly 570 individuals here with impaired hearing were given the “gift of hearing” by a foundation based in the United States, an official said Monday.

Teddy Sabugaa of the city’s social welfare and development office, said that the Deaf Action Philippines, a non-government organization based here, provided the name of the beneficiaries.

He said that the beneficiaries, mostly coming from the towns of Villanueva, Salay, Balingasag, Libertad, Alubijid, all of Misamis Oriental.

Sabugaa identified the US-based foundation as the Starkey Hearing Foundation of the United States of America founded by William F. Austin 50 years ago in Minnesota, U.S.A.

Officials said that Starkey Hearing Foundation has already provided the “gift of hearing” to 1.8 million people around the world in the pursuit of the philanthropic efforts of the founder. (PNA)
