CAIRO, Oct. 28 — Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will participate in a meeting on the Syrian crisis in Vienna on Friday, the foreign ministry announced Wednesday.

The coming meeting will tackle proposals to activate the political process in Syria, the ministry said.

On Oct. 23, foreign ministers of Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey held a session of talks on solving the Syrian crisis in Vienna, and agreed to hold another meeting this week with a broader participation of regional and key countries.

"Egypt's stance on the crisis has not changed since its emergence — that the military option is not the solution," according to a statement.

Russia, a main player in the Syrian crisis, has frequently contacted egypt and Iran recently on pushing forward the political settlement in Syria.

The four-and-half-year conflict in Syria has killed more than 250,000 people and displayed 11 million. (PNA/Xinhua)
