SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Aug. 11 — The very first Negosyo Center in Ilocos Sur, established under Republic Act (RA) No. 10644 or the "Go Negosyo Act" is now operational, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

DTI Regional Director Florante Leal said the project seeks to bring the government closer to Medium, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the province to ensure their growth and development.

Leal attended the launching of the project spearheaded by Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Singson, Negosyo Center Program Manager Director Dorecita Delima, Vice Governor Victor Savellano and DTI Ilocos Sur Provincial Director Grace Lapastora and other provincial officials.

Launched jointly by the Ilocos Sur provincial government and DTI, the Negosyo Center is provided for in RA 10644. The law mandates that all cities and municipalities should have Negosyo Centers.

Ilocos Sur Board Member Jaime Singson said the center seeks to address some of the concerns of MSMEs which include lack of financing, technical skills, and managerial talent.

The Negosyo Centers shall be responsible in providing MSME services in areas of: Business Registration; Business Advisory Services such as Product Development, Trade Promotion, Financing Facilitation, Investment Promotion, MSME Counseling; Business Information and others.

In support to the Negosyo Center, Ilocos Sur Governor Singson assured that the Provincial Government will be working hand in hand with DTI and other entities providing necessary services to MSME’s to help boost the local economy.

Aside from DTI services, a pool of other government services will also be offered in Negosyo Centers. Any MSME owner can go to any Negosyo Centers in the country to ask for help.

DTI Regional Director Florante O. Leal emphasized the importance of the private sector and other partners in promoting the Negosyo Center. He likewise sought their commitment to support the Center in order to make the region number one as it is hoped to be.

Additional Negosyo Centers are set to be established in Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan and La Union in the coming months to complete the nine committed Centers for the region. (PNA)
