BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 3 — The Department of Trade and Industry(DTI) here recently handed free units of "Timbangan ng Bayan" or weighing scales to four municipalities in a bid to promote Consumer Welfare Rights.

Through a partnership with the local government units, the DTI gave 1 unit weighing scale for Quezon town, 2 units for Sta. Fe town, 2 units for Dupax del Norte town and 2 units for Bambang town.

The weighing scales were formally received by Quezon Mayor Aurelio Salunat, Sta. Fe Mayor Liwayway Caramat, Dupax del Norte Vice Mayor Victorino Prado Jr. and Vice Mayor Arnel Hernandez of Bambang.

Ruben Diciano, DTI provincial director said the Timbangan ng Bayan will ensure the holistic protection of consumers from all sorts of unfair and unconscionable sales acts.

The provision of Timbangan ng Bayan (TnB) to the public markets aimed at encouraging consumers to validate the weight of their purchases and to be vigilant against sellers who manipulate their weighing scales.

The TnB is component of the I-MOVERS (Improved Market Operations for Vigilant, Efficient and Responsive Service) Program which aims to institutionalize a more strengthened consumer-protection advocacy which highlights the “Tamang Timbang, Tamang Presyo at De Kalidad na Produkto” (correct weight, right price and quality product) mantra of the department.
