VIGAN CITY, Jan. 16 –Governor Ryan Luis Singson cited the good potential of the coastal areas of Ilocos Sur for beach sports due to the existence of winds and clean and beautiful ambiance.

“Sports tourism in the province goes well with the surge of tourists in Vigan City upon its listing as the New 7 Wonders Cities of the world, thus beach sports is another alternative tourist activity in various coastal towns of the province,” Singson said.

Congressman Ronald Singson said the beach sports gave another opportunity to the local residents to explore and develop their skills in water sports.

"Unlike in basketball where athletes should be tall, in water sports, athletes have no size limit," Congressman Singson said.

Last week, the 2nd Sun-Soaked Ilocos Sur Festival that runs from Jan.9 to 11 here was a success with at least 700 athletes from different parts of the country seeing action in various extreme beach-water sporting events.

The was initiated by Congressman Singson in partnership with the provincial government, headed by Governor Singson to promote local beaches as hubs of water sporting events and to create another tourist attraction in the province.

A team from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) topped the dragon boat racing event beating its closest rival from the Philippine Army.

Aside from dragon boat racing, other extreme water sports events included surf boarding, frisbee, kite boarding, beach volleyball and surfing. (PNA)
