Heart disease: Zamboanga City’s top killer disease in 2014

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 6 -– The City Health Office reported on Tuesday that heart disease was the number one killer disease in this city in 2014.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos said his office registered 1,074 deaths due to heart disease last year.

Agbulos said that 655 of the total were males while the remaining 419 were females.

In view of this, Agbulos said they will give more focus this year on the prevention of diseases, especially cardiovascular disease.

The other killer diseases included the following: pneumonia, 501; cancer (all types), 374; other causes which include gunshot wounds, vehicular accident, drowning, hacking, stab wounds, poisoning and others, 276; diabetes and its complications, 213; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 169; sepsis, 159; kidney disease, 122; and tuberculosis, 120.

Dr. Agbulos advised the public to practice healthy lifestyle.

He said they should immediately seek consultation “if they feel sick.” (PNA)
