ILOILO CITY, Dec. 11 — The province of Iloilo is a recipient of the “Light for Health” program of the Foundation for Rural Electrification and Development (FREED) also known as Solar Energy Foundation Phils.

On Thursday, FREED together with Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. distributed solar suitcases in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) that had been hit by Typhoon Yolanda last year.

Jaime I. Ayala, chairman of the board of the FREED, said that the Light for Health is intended to bring light to GIDAs so their birthing centers would have something to use for maternal and child health services.

He said that the 20 solar suitcases they were distributing have been made possible by a grant by the McArthur Foundation of United States of America for designing, implementing and distribution of the units with FREED.

The beneficiaries are the rural health units and barangay health stations in the local government units of Carles, 2 units; Balasan, 1; Estancia, 2; Batad, 2; San Dionisio, 1; Sara, 2; Ajuy, 2; Concepcion, 3; Lemery, 2; San Rafael, 1; Barotac Viejo, 2.

Gov. Defensor said that he is thankful for the donation of the FREED for it could greatly help the GIDAs in the province. (PNA)
