Dagupan City launches "Balon Dagupan, Healthy Dagupan"

DAGUPAN CITY, Nov. 12 — After the success of its “Alagang Balon Dagupan for the Elderly" (New Dagupan Cares for the Elderly), the city government launched a new health program dubbed as “Balon Dagupan, Healthy Dagupan” on Monday (November 10).

Mayor Belen Fernandez said the new program seeks to promote sound mind and sound body which involves refular Zumba dance exercises in the city plaza from Monday to Friday starting at 5:00 p.m.

Zumba is intended for city government employees but it is also open to all Dagupenos who want to stay fit and be healthy.

“We will not stop the Zumba for as long as you want it, said Fernandez.<p)She said while the “Alagang Balon Dagupan” is intended to cure illnesses and prevent diseases, the new health program seeks to promote healthy lifestyle.

Under the new program, the city government will also teach children with skin diseases on how to maintain hygienic bodies.

“Despite our feeding programs, it is impossible for the malnourished kids to achieve their ideal weight because of their illness”, Fernandez also said as she ordered Barangay Health Workers (BHW) to look for at least 500 children with skin disease who will be treated.

“We treat their disease and put them first on a bath and then teach them and their parents on proper hygiene so that they will be eventually eventually cured,"said Fernandez.

The mayor said the city government also intends to ban junk foods in elementary and high schools in the city and encourage them to take part in the relaunching of “Gulayan sa Paaralan” to promote healthy eating among the students. (PNA)
