MANILA, Nov. 4 — Rizal Park will be transformed from a recreational center into a giant stage venue for a unique concert, MTV Music Evolution-Manila on Visit the Philippines Year 2015 (VPY2015) next year.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) said in a statement Tuesday that the concert, a collaboration between the MTV and the DOT through its marketing arm, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), aims to put the Philippines on the map of international music.

“We Filipinos like to entertain and perform for people. MTV Music Evolution will not only put the Philippines on the map of international music, but it will also serve as a global stage for the world to witness what Filipinos do best,” Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said.

Jimenez described the Philippines as a “musically passionate” country and welcomed the partnership with MTV that will allow young people from around the world to experience why and how the music culture is even more fun in the Philippines.

“This is, indeed, one of the exciting events to look forward to during our Visit the Philippines Year (VPY) 2015,” he added.

Little details has been released on the concert, but DOT assured that it will showcase iconic international music artists and the hottest new acts in both the regional and local music scenes on a single stage, while featuring the best of Philippine music and culture to international youth audiences.

This will be the first time MTV Music Evolution will hit the shores of Manila, which will be recorded live for global telecast.

In addition to the MTV Music Evolution, MTV will also help promote local music events organized by the TPB to profile the rich music heritage of the country.

DOT said that MTV Music Evolution will be supported by a wide range of integrated marketing initiatives driving awareness and engagement for the event.

Meanwhile, TPB chief operating officer Domingo Enerio III in an interview said that the concert is expected to attract some of the biggest names when it comes to music and the arts, however said the final list of artists has yet to be finalized.

Enerio also said that the concert expects to draw as many as 40 to 50 thousand people not just from Philippines but within the region. (PNA)
