COTABATO CITY, Oct. 30 — The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Mindanao has appealed to stakeholders to consolidate efforts in mitigating problems on malnutrition.

Dr. Teogones Baluma, DOH 12 regional director, challenged the local government officials to work closely with the community to address the malnutrition problem.

“To effectively solve the malnutrition problem of the local government unit, families and the community must work together,” Baluma said.

Baluma also thanked the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) for their extra efforts in containing malnutrition.

Baluma, who also chairs the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in the region, attended the 2014 NNC Regional Awarding Ceremony and the launching of the agency’s “Ten Kumainments, which is a nutritional guideline for Filipinos in Koronadal City Wednesday.

The awarding ceremony was aimed at giving recognition to local government units (LGU) and BNS in the regional, provincial, city/municipality and barangay levels for its outstanding contribution to the efforts against the malnutrition programs of the government.

Speaking to reporters later on, Baluma said like in any other programs by his office, it will only succeed if all the stakeholders are participating.

He cited the successful implementation of anti-measles and anti-polio vaccination in September where health providers received all-out support from local government units and volunteers. (PNA)
