MANILA, Jan. 15 — As the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) marks its 63rd anniversary on Thursday, it is giving out awards to its media partners in providing service to the people, especially the disadvantaged ones.

According to the DSWD, it has initiated the "Gawad Ulat" to give recognition to the Most Supportive DSWD Beat Reporters, Most Supportive Newspapers, Most Supportive Radio Stations, and Most Supportive Television Stations.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said the "Gawad Ulat" is part of the "PaNata Ko sa Bayan" or the "Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon sa Bayan" awards which acknowledge the efforts of individuals, groups or organizations whose "panata" or vow is "to share their resources and time in providing a better opportunity for the disadvantaged sectors."

Secretary Soliman said the DSWD Awards Committee has chosen Leilani S. Junio of the State-run Philippines News Agency (PNA) as one of the "Most Supportive DSWD Beat Reporters" for having written "positive and balanced stories on DSWD programs, projects and services."

The other awardees were not mentioned by the DSWD in its letter informing PNA Executive Editor Faye P. Velasco about the award.

The awarding ceremony will be held on Thursday, 3:00-4:30 p.m., at the DSWD Auditorium, Central Office, Batasan Hills, Quezon City. (PNA)
