Pampanga to be declared insurgent free

MANILA, Jan. 14 — 703rd Infantry Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Henry Sabarre announced that Pampanga, which is his area of jurisdiction, will be declared insurgent free this Wednesday.

"It means that the area (Pampanga) is now peaceful and ready for further development," Sabarre stressed.

He added that no sizeable rebel force have been spotted in Pampanga since 2009.

Sabarre, however, stated that this will not immediately mean that the military presence in the province will be immediately reduce as troops are still needed for disaster response and humanitarian aid during times of natural and man-made calamities.

He said the event will be headed Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, Northern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Pio Catapang, 7th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Hernando Irriberi, their respective police counterparts, provincial and local government units of the province. (PNA)
