MANILA, Nov. 15 — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday said that big commercial shipping operators have joined the government’s efforts in bringing relief goods to typhoon-ravaged areas in the Visayas region.

The PPA said the operators, led by members of the Philippine Liner Shipping Association and the Philippine Inter-island Shipping Association, started to deploy dedicated vessels to ferry relief goods bound for Tacloban, Ormoc, Coron, and Puerto Princesa City.

Aside from this, Philippine Span Asia Corp. (formerly Sulpicio Lines) tapped one of its vessels to ferry relief goods from Manila to Cebu.

The PPA said Lorenzo Shipping Corp., owned by the Magsaysay Transport and Logistics Corp., also deployed one of its vessels to Cebu carrying relief goods for Philippine National Red Cross, Philippine Business for Social Progress, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development and other relief items from other non-government organizations. The vessel also carried bottled drinking water from beverage giant Coca-Cola Bottlers Corp. (PNA)
