MANILA, Aug. 30 — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Friday that improvements on its Southwest Integrated Provincial Terminal (SWIPT) in Pasay City will be completed next week.

To be in commission by next week at the terminal are the covered walkway from Roxas Boulevard/Coastal Road footbridge, walkway from SWIPT to the adjacent city bus terminal, taxi bay at the terminal exit along MIA Road, and widening of the SWIPT’s MIA Road exit towards Coastal Road to serve as exclusive lane for Cavite-bound buses.

Apart from this, the MMDA is also set to complete geometric improvements inside the terminal for easy maneuvering of buses, installation of exhaust fans, drinking fountains, free movies, and occasional concerts.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said they are continuously addressing all legitimate concerns with regards to the operations of the bus terminal.

He added that he already met with some bus operators to discuss their grievances.

“Everyone of us is adjusting that’s why we have to sit down and resolve the problems without resorting to mass actions, which is a violation of the bus companies’ certificate of public convenience,” Tolentino said.

The MMDA chair added that more loading/unloading bays, construction of Terminal 2 near the staging area for buses plying Aguinaldo Highway, and separate dispatch system for air-conditioned and ordinary buses will also be completed.

And for faster turnaround of buses at the terminal, the MMDA said bus drivers will now be required to undergo fingerprint scanning only once per day, instead of every trip. (PNA)
