GMA did not use funds of Martial law claimants — Rosales

MANILA, Aug. 30 — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) confirmed that the 0 million fund for Martial Law victims was never used by Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Chairperson Loretta Rosales said on a press briefing on Friday that the total money transferred by the Swiss government amounted to $ 618 million.

Out of the 0 million, 0 million was kept by the national treasury under a special account for Martial Law claimants.

According to Rosales, she wrote to the national treasury to ask if the funds were still intact, in which the treasury replied yes.

The national treasury said that they only need a legal basis for the fund to be released, because the 0 million was still intact, the P10 billion coming from the 0 million earned an interest of P500 million.

“The P10 billion is now going to be distributed to the claimants,” Rosales said.

She also said that a small part of those will be given for the administration of the board of compensation, composed of 9 people who will decide the category of the claimants and how much is going to go to the claimants. (PNA)
