MANILA, July 16 (PNA) — Malacanang on Tuesday confirmed the resignation of Bureau of Immigration (BI) chief Ricardo David.

"Commissioner David has tendered his resignation to the President and the President has accepted," said Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte in a press briefing.

Valte said David's resignation letter was dated July 12.

"We would like to thank Commissioner David for his service to the country in all the years he has served in the military," she said.

"When he (David) retired from the service, when he was offered, he did not think twice about going back to public service and we would like to thank him for that," she added.

When asked if the BI chief's resignation is linked to the flight of Korean fugitives out of the country, Valte said: "Commissioner David felt that it was but proper for him to take full responsibility for events that may have transpired under his leadership of the bureau." (PNA)
