MANILA, July 11 (PNA) -– An online recruitment company executive stressed Thursday the criticism that economic growth has not resulted in jobs is not true.

JobsDB Philippines’ Head of Sales Dong de Guzman said in fact, “there are plenty of jobs available” in the country.

De Guzman explained that their data on JobsDB even shows a continuous increase in job vacancies.

He said from 60,000 job vacancies a day in January this year, their portal has reached as much as 90,000 this June.

“Speaking from jobsDB.com’s experience, at any given time, we have as much as 80,000 a day,” he added.

The problem he said was that there is really a job-and-skill gap and adding to the burden is that most applicants do not take the chance of applying, for lack of confidence, preparedness and competence.

De Guzman said it is also a reality that employers nowadays look for applicants beyond their diploma.

“Normally, employers would really look straight to the first level, there should be a college degree. But apparently, sometimes companies and employers are really looking specifically for other competency,” he said.

He said employers now look for creative thinkers, applicants with good communication skills, Emotional Quotient.

The JobsDB executive said this is the problem that their new program with the Association of Marketing Educators called “2013 Career Drive” will address.

De Guzman said through the program, at least 10,000 students from 20 universities all over the country will be informed, trained, and given ideas, strategies and recommendation regarding the most effective and fastest way they can penetrate the labor market.

Normally out of 100 applicants, only 20 make it to employment, but through the program, de Guzman said the 10,000 students may go beyond the 20% chance.

“We at jobsDB.com, that’s one of the reasons why we are here. We would like to facilitate, we would like to try to filter and come up immediate matches to these requirements, such that we will be giving the adequate and help the concern of the government into giving jobs to our countrymen,” he said.
