CEBU CITY, May 29 — The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council will be integrating the closed-circuit television cameras system to monitor disaster and emergencies.

CDRRMC operations head Alvin Santillana said they are now testing the CCTV system with the Management Information and Computer Systems of City Hall which will be monitoring the CCTV feeds.

The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council has currently installed some 30 CCTV cameras in Cebu City.

About 20 are placed in different intersections of major thoroughfares, while 10 are in the mayor’s office.

These are mainly for crime detection purposes.

The cameras will be integrated in the Crisis Command Center, which will be located in the CDRRMC office near the South Road Properties access road in Mambaling.

The building that would house the center is still being renovated.

Santillana also said they have been conducting regular clearing operations of creeks and waterways in preparation for the rainy season.

The CDRRMC will also be giving timely advisories to warn the public of disaster risks like floods and landslide warnings.

Santillana however stressed that disaster risk reduction needs public participation.

He said they can only do so much in clearing waterways and creeks to mitigate floods.

Santillana said the communities where the creeks and waterways are located need to stop throwing their garbage on these waterways. (PNA)
