P180,000 worth of illegal logs seized in Agusan del Sur

BUTUAN CITY, May 28 — A composite team of police and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) personnel seized 160 pieces of illegally cut logs of different species found abandoned along Agusan River in Sta. Ines, San Luis in Agusan del Sur by a composite team conducting operation against illegal logging at 4:00 p.m. Monday.

Reports reaching the regional headquarters here from Agusan del Sur Police Office stated that the confiscated logs have an aggregate volume of 60 cubic meters with an estimated market value of P180,000.00. These are now under the custody of San Luis Municipal Police Station, waiting to be transported to the DENR depository area in Barangay Batohon, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur.

San Luis police are still conducting a deeper probe to identify the owner of the said logs and is preparing to file charges for violation of Executive Order No. 23 issued by President Benigno Aquino III against them. (PNA)
