God’s will that I remain in private life – Magsaysay Jr.

MANILA, May 21 – Former senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. on Tuesday congratulated his Team PNoy senators-elect teammates even as he conceded his failed comeback bid which he described as God’s will.

”It is God’s will that I remain in private life, but I will continue to serve our country and people even as an ordinary citizen,” Magsaysay said in a press statement.

Magsaysay, son of former President Ramon Magsaysay Sr., garnered more than 10 million votes in the last May 13 elections but it was not good enough to enter top 12. He joined two other Team PNoy senatorial bets – Risa Hontiveros and former senator Jamby Madrigal who did not made it.

”We did not lose, rather, we gained from the opportunity to do what we thought was good for our country,” Magsaysay said.

The nine Team PNoy senatorial winners include Grace Poe, Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero, Alan Cayetano, Sonny Angara, Bam Aquino, Aquilino Pimentel III, Antonio Trillanes and Cynthia Villar.

United Nationalist Alliance’s candidates Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito and reelected Gregorio Honasan II won the three other slots of the top 12 senatorial slots.

"I congratulate the twelve men and women in whom our countrymen have placed their trust as senators of the Republic. I wish them well as they take on their role as servant-leaders. I have high hopes that each of them will adhere to the highest standards of integrity, accountability and public service, which their critical office demands and the Filipino people deserve,” Magsaysay said.

"I sincerely thank everyone who helped in my campaign, whose faith, dynamism and generosity have sustained me every step of the way. I also thank the countless others who expressed support and confidence in me personally, through mail and even electronically. Every smile, handshake and encouraging word is truly appreciated,” he added. (PNA)
