MANILA, May 7 — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes said that the action of presidential sister, Kris Aquino in giving a tip to a taxi driver could be perceived as vote-buying.

“Puede, kasi parang kumakampanya ka, para kang nakiusap tapos binigyan mo ng premyo,” he said.

However, he opined that Aquino’s action was done in good faith.

“Yung simpleng pagkwento? It shows her good faith. As far as she is concerned, she does not find anything wrong with it. Para bang natuwa lang siya siguro dahil nung kinampanya niya, sinabi ng driver ok,” he said.

It was reported that the youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III that while inside a taxi reminded the driver to vote for Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Grace Poe -Llamanzares and Bam Aquino, who are all running for senator under Team PNoy.

When the driver agreed, she doubled the taxi fare, gave him P1,000 and told him to keep the change.

She rode the public utility vehicle from the Cebu airport to her hotel during a campaign sortie in the said province last week.

Vote-buying is considered as an election offense during the campaign period from February 12 to May 11 for national candidates under the Omnibus Election Code.

The law defines vote-buying as “giving, offering or promising money or anything of value directly or indirectly, in order to induce anyone or the public in general to vote for or against any candidate.”

The offense carries a penalty of one to six years imprisonment, removal of right to vote, and disqualification from running for public office. (PNA)

i cannot see any malice to what ms. kris did.
ms. kris is known to be generous to those she found “nice” to her… considering her status..
its not anusual that many will give ugly interpretation to her action…
