VICTORIA, Tarlac, May 1 — Malacanang on Wednesday dismissed accusations that President Benigno Aquino III is conducting loyalty check if his allies in the provinces are supporting the entire Tam PNoy senatorial candidates in the May 13 elections.

"Hindi po totoo ‘yon. Wala hong loyalty check na nangyayari ngayon," said Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda in a phone patch interview with Palace reporters aired nationwide over government radio station Radyo ng Bayan.

"I think they're just deflecting the issues right now on the performance of the Team UNA (United Nationalist Alliance) candidates vis-à-vis the Team PNoy candidates based on the surveys that have just been released," he added.

Lacierda said the current situation states that the Team PNoy senatoriables are doing well in various surveys especially because of the endorsement of the President.

He said President Aquino is alsomsatisfied with the performance of the administration candidates in recent surveys.

UNA campaign manager Tobias Tiangco on Tuesday came out with a statement accusing the administration's Liberal Party (LP) of being "jumpy and paranoid" in the last few weeks before the mid-term polls.

"Loyalty checks are a sign of desperation and panic. Hindi nila kayang kontrolin ang mga leader nilang sumusuporta sa UNA (They can't control their leaders who support UNA)," said Tiangco.

Lacierda, however, said that the LP has no reason to panic since it has the upper hand in the senatorial race based on pre-election survey results.

"Nagpa-panic ho kami dahil 9-3? Medyo baliktad ho yata ‘yung kung sino dapat ang mag-panic (We are panicking because it's 9-3 in favor of LP? This is quite the reverse on who should panic)," he said.

The latest Pulse Asia survey result showed that of the 16 candidates who have a "statistical chance of winning" 11 are from the LP-led coalition while five are from UNA. (PNA)
