Legarda vows to remain committed to women’s rights

MANILA, May 1 — Incumbent Sen. Loren Legarda pledged Wednesday she will remain committed to the cause of women’s rights, including freedom from violence, quality health care, education and access to jobs.

“We all seek to preserve, not destroy life, by making it less difficult for the poor, our women, and their children to access health services,” the re-electionist lady senatorial bet of Team Pnoy said in a written statement delivered by her father, Antonio Legarda.

In the statement, Legarda thanked the Purple Ribbon that formed the Purple Vote Movement for kind endorsement of her candidacy along with other six senatorial candidates at the Sulu Riviera Hotel in Quezon City.

Legarda admitted that based on her experiences there are issues that senators like her and other advocates or groups that they cannot agree on as a part of thriving democracy.

“I am certain however, that as Filipinos, we all share the desire to make democracy work in favor of those who have lesser in life,” Legarda said.

Legarda is credited with passing laws to protect the rights of women and promote their welfare such as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act, the Magna Carta of Women and the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

The Purple Vote Movement is a a group from supporters of Purple Ribbon that advocated RH bill passage into law including non-governmental organizations, civil groups, business groups, former government officials, private institutions and other concerned groups to ensure that full implementation of the law will be achieved and standby to it.

    Maski naman dati,hindi nagkukulang si legarda sa paggawa ng batas na nagpoprotekta sa bata at sa mga nahihirap.Kaya naniniwala ako na ipagpapatuloy niya ito.
