Pampanga gov appeals for peaceful elections in Arayat town

ARAYAT, Pampanga, April 23 — Governor Lilia G. Pineda has appealed to her constituents from this town to ensure clean and peaceful polls this May 13, following reports that Arayat is listed as one of the hot spots this coming elections.

Pineda, during her speech before some 400 barangay leaders here on Monday , appealed to them to prove that Arayat is a safe and peaceful town.

"My wish is that your town will be the most peaceful in this coming election,” she said.

She reiterated her call to municipal and barangay leaders to be calm and welcome all the candidates coming from different political parties who want to share their platform of governance with them.

It can be recalled that several killings that involved political leaders here remain unsolved until now.

The latest was the killing of barangay councilman Lauro Batas of barangay Tabuan, Arayat town last January.

Batas was the third village leader killed in this town since the third quarter of 2012.

The other victims were barangay captains Joel Puyat of San Agustin Norte and Armando Castro of San Roque Bitas. (PNA)
