MANILA, April 18 — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes said that he is looking to take a break this weekend to be able to gather his thoughts on matters regarding his present job.

He assured that he will disclose his final decision early next week.

“I’ll take a break Saturday, Sunday konting meditation, konting pag-iisip tapos, tapos I will make a final decision by Monday,” he said.

However, he did not reveal where he would go.

“I will be talking to some people. I have to talk to my daughters, who are the people behind me. Sila lang naman ang pinaniniwalaan ko,” he added.

Brillantes said that he would still meet with President Benigno Aquino III, whatever his decision on Monday.

“Whether ano desisyon ko, pupunta pa rin ako. Sayang naman e, matagal ko na siya hindi nakikita e,” he said, adding that, “kung may meeting ako, next week probably. Paguusapan lang namin probably is mangumusta.”

He admitted that he is asking for an appointment with the Chief Executive.

“Humingi na ako last week, ang sabi baka next week. Pag tawagin niya ako syempre pupunta,” the poll body chief added.

Brillantes earlier said that he was mulling to leave his position after admitting that he was frustrated with the recent rulings of the Supreme Court (SC) on cases involving the poll body.

The cases are: the status temporary restraining orders on the rules on airtime political advertisement on television and radio, and on “Team Buhay/Team Patay” tarpaulin posted outside the San Sebastian Church, which they ordered to put down; the granting of the petition of 54 disqualified party-list groups and the ruling reversing its earlier decision on the election case of Cavite Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi.
