Comelec disallows campaign motorcades, rallies in 22 MM thoroughfares

MANILA, April 11 — The Commission on Elections has approved a resolution disallowing campaign motorcades in 22 major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr said violators of the resolution may be jailed for six years as it will be considered an election offense.

"Today, we promulgated Resolution no. 9666 disallowing the use of major thoroughfares within Manila for election campaigns, rallies," Brillantes said on his official Twitter account.

On non-major thoroughfares, candidates and parties are required to notify the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority three days prior to the rally.

The 22 roads are: EDSA, C-5, Quezon Avenue, Marcos Highway, Commonwealth avenue, España, E. Rodriguez, Ramon Magsaysay, Quirino Avenue, Aurora Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Shaw Boulevard, MIA Road, Domestic Road, Andrews Avenue, South Superhighway, Taft Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Araneta Avenue, A.H. Lacson, Rizal Avenue and A. Bonifacio Avenue. (PNA)
