ILOILO CITY, April 8 — This highly urbanized city in Western Visayas is one of the best examples of the Liberal Party and its allied groups pitting against candidates of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and independent candidates.

But the main battle focuses on the city congressional, mayoral and vice mayoral bets trying to present their political agenda and be accepted by the city's more than 250,000 voters.

Its a return bout from the 2010 fight between incumbent Jerry P. Treñas of the Liberal Party against contender Raul Gonzalez Jr of the UNA for the congressional position. It is also a battle of good governance and wit between incumbent city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of the Liberal Party against challenger Rommel Ynion of the UNA and the vice mayoral fight between incumbent Jose Espinosa III of Liberal Party and Jeffrey Ganzon of UNA.

The LP also dominated the slots for city councilor augmented by other allied candidates. They are Lyndon Acap, Leoni Gerochi, Armand Parcon, Eduardo Peñaredondo, Jay Treñas, Lex Tupas and Inday Lee Zulueta of the Liberal Party with Joshua Alim of the PMP, and independents Rodel Agado, Baronda Love Jam, Jason Gonzales and Plaridel Nava.

The challengers are independent candidates for city councilor Allen Aquino, Eddie Bañez, Mel Carreon, Juni Espinosa, Deo Llamas, Rafael Palmares Jr., Ed Pama, Romeo Rosales, Edward Yee, and Alan Zaldivar, and UNA bets Rex Carton, Jose Maria dela Llana, Gerald Ganzon, Marigold Gonzales, Mandrie Malabor, Irene Ong, Dwight Trasadas and Bryant Zulueta.
