Two NPAs killed in Montevista encounter

MANILA, Nov. 30 – Two New People's Army (NPA) fighters were killed following a clash with the 10th Infantry Division's 66th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Lebanon, Montevista, Compostela Valley Province before dawn Friday.

Col. Antonio G. Florendo, unit commander, said that his men encountered the communist rebels at about 3 a.m. Friday while the troops were on their routine patrol in the area.

“This security patrol was conducted due to the report received from the populace that a group of illegally armed men is conducting extortion activities in their community".

The troops were also able to recover one .45 caliber pistol and landmine from the two slain NPAs.

The fallen rebels were identified as Joriben Mahusay Caipan and Christoper L. Mawang. (PNA)
