MANILA, Nov. 30 – The Philippine Air Force Friday announced two more W-3A "Sokols" combat utility helicopters have joined its fleet early this week.

Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol, PAF spokesperson, said the two "Sokols" choppers — out of the second batch of four aircraft — have been delivered to 410th Maintenance Wing at Clark Air Base in Pampanga on Nov. 26.

With the arrival of the two, the PAF now has six "Sokols" helicopters.

He added the helicopters were delivered straight from Poland to the Philippines via Antonov cargo carrier.

It is manufactured by Augusta PZL Swidnik of Poland.

Okol said that the machines are now final maintenance checks before being turned over to 505th Search and Rescue Group where it will augment the first four "Sokols" that were delivered last February.

The last two "Sokols" are expected to be delivered early next year.

Okol said these helicopters will be used for search and rescue missions.

It has enough space for two pilots, two crewmen, three medical attendants and six passengers. (PNA)
