MANILA, Oct. 26 – With the yearly exodus for All Saints and Souls holiday starting to pick up, the Coast Guard Friday warned the seagoing public against using "fly-by-night" or "colorum" (unlicensed) inter-island shipping lines to ensure their safe voyage.

Rear Adm. Luis Tuason, Jr., PCG vice commandant for operation, issued this warning as "colorum" shipping lines are generally unsafe and not equipped with emergency devices like lifeboats and vests in case of emergencies.

“We are monitoring the situation right now especially that thousands of passengers are already pouring along the port terminals to spend their vacation in their respective provinces,” he added.

Tuason also noted that last April, during the Holy Week period alone, several "colorum" vessels were reported operating along the port terminals in the southern part of the country.(PNA)
