MANILA, Oct. 26 — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepED), will hold the 14th Oratorical Contest among senior high school students in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Oct. 29, 1:00 p.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall.

The contest will be the culminating event for this year’s celebration of the National Statistics Month (NSM) in October.

Seventeen finalists representing the 16 divisions and 1 regional science high school in the National Capital Region will compete in the oratorical contest finals.

They will deliver oratorical pieces emphasizing the importance of statistics around the theme of this year’s NSM, “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work Through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth.”

Since 1996, the contest has served to instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, as well as enjoin the public to support activities aimed at upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

This year’s event will provide student-orators the venue to showcase their oratorical skills and present the youth’s views on how statistics can contribute to a better understanding of the progress that has been made in achieving decent employment for the working-age population and in addressing the major challenges relating to the different dimensions of decent work, namely, expansion in access to job opportunities and improvement in quality of employment.

The first place winner of the oratorical contest will receive a cash prize of P25,000, while the second and third place winners will be given P20,000 and P15,000, respectively.

Trainers of the first, second and third place winners will also be given cash awards. Trophies will also be awarded to the three winners and their schools. (PNA)
