'Ofel' strands 1,480 passengers in Visayas, Mindanao ports

MANILA, Oct. 24 — Some 1,480 passengers were stranded in various ports in Visayas and Mindanao due to tropical storm ‘Ofel’, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.

NDRRMC said 102 rolling cargoes, 14 vessels and 22 motorbancas were also reported stranded.

As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, a total of 48 maritime vessels were suspended in the ports of Tagbilaran City and Dumaguete City.

The disaster agency said the local Coastal Guard Station is monitoring travel status within these areas.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture out into the sea particularly in eastern seaboards of southern Luzon. (PNA)
