MANILA, Oct. 18 – The Bases Conversion and Development Authority Thursday formally turned over to the Philippine Army 10 condominium buildings it will use in a housing program for its officers and men.

The units are at Fort Bonifacio's security and escort battalion area in Taguig City.

On the same day, 64 condo units, equivalent to four buildings, were formally handed over to 48 Army and 16 Navy officers and their families.

Each building is a five-story structure and contains 16 condominium units each, which has a floor area of 100 square meters and has its own balcony area.

The turnover of the 10 condominium buildings is part of the BCDA's P700 million replication program designed to provide housing units to members of the PA and Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Representatives from the Dept. of National Defense, BCDA, Megaworld Corporation as well as AFP officials signified support to the government programs.

A partnership with the Gawad-Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. gave birth to the Kalinga sa Kawal Housing Projects.

To date, a total 1, 936 are occupying 444 buildings erected under the project.

“It is a concrete manifestation of the government’s concern for the well being of its soldiers and their families. Likewise, it is very much aligned to the visions of the Army Transformation Roadmap of being a world class Army responsive to the needs of its constituents,” officials said.

Since its inception, a total 2,144 on-base and 20,011 off-base housing units were allocated to Army officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees. Part of those was already turned over while the rest are still under construction.(PNA)
