26 aspirants attend 1st day of Comelec hearing

MANILA, Oct. 18 — Some 26 aspirants attended the first day of the two-day hearings set by the Commission on Elections to give each a chance to explain why they should be allowed to run in the 2013 midterm polls.

Originally, 43 individuals ertr asked to attend Thursday’s hearing, held at the session hall of the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.

Seventeen individuals did not attend the proceedings, which could lead to them being denied chances to run for senator.

They are: Rosario Bantolo, Leonardo Bula, Patrocino Cailing, Catalino Dazo, Generoso Factor, Benjamin Handumon,Jr., Edwin Jolongbayan, Ed Salam Lacan Luisong Tagean Jr., Merlito Lagata, Victor Lawag, Severo Mascuenda, Jr., Elena Mandap, Manuel Po, Marlon Rirao, Alfonso Talag, Jr., Rogelio Tomol, and Ulyn Villamor.

On Friday, 16 candidates will have the chance to explain to the Commission en banc why they should be permitted to participate in the May 13, 2013 polls.

After the hearings, the Comelec is expected to come up with the official list of senatorial candidates for next year’s elections. (PNA)
