MANILA, Sept. 28 — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have busted two criminal gangs during separate operations in Agusan Del Sur and Bataan early this week.

Director Samuel Pagdilao, CIDG chief, said this resulted in the arrest of eight suspects, including a retired policeman.

He added that three of the suspects were arrested in Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur. All of them have gun-running links.

The suspects were identified as former policeman Arsenio Cabugsa, 50, the leader of the group and a resident of Brgy. Panaganan, Lapaz town; and his two members, Tomas Dimaranan, 42, and Rogie Carumba, 60; both of Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur.

Last Sept. 23, Pagdilao said operating units from the CIDG in Region 13 and the local police of Prosperidad town conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in the arrest of the three suspects after they received the entrapment money in exchange for seven unlicensed caliber .45 pistols.

The CIDG also confiscated the vehicle used by the suspects in their gun-running activities, a Maroon Toyota Hilux pick-up (KDL 309).

In Dinalupihan, Bataan, joint operating units of CIDG and the local police also arrested five members of a robbery group identified as Roam Puerto, 30, of Leon Guinto, Manila; Antonio Turibio, 36, of Mayamot, Antipolo City; Angelito Geronimo of Macabebe, Pampanga; Richard Morales, 23, of Balanga City; and Jerry Tolentino, 48, of Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.

Authorities arrested the five suspects last Sept. 24 in a checkpoint along the Gapan-Olongapo Road in Barangay San Ramon, Dinalupihan, Bataan after they received a call from the owner of Gabby Marketing that his collector is being tailed by suspicious persons on board a Toyota sedan (TSG-890)and a motorcycle (7825-PI).

A responding CIDG team proceeded to the place while local police put up a checkpoint at Barangay Sta Isabel.

Shortly after the CIDG arrived, the suspects motored towards the direction of Barangay Layac, Dinalupihan where they were arrested by the local police.

Confiscated from the suspects were one homemade caliber .38 pistol, two hand grenades, one 9-mm Uzi submachine gun and a magazine loaded with 9-mm rounds.

All the arrested suspects in the two operations were charged with illegal possession of firearms. (PNA)
