MANILA, Aug. 30 — Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confiscated more or less 200 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P1 million from a suspected drug pusher during a buy-bust operation in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Wednesday night.

PDEA Director-General Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. identified the suspect as Richard A. Gomez, 31, of No. 369 S. Roldan St., Tangos, Navotas City.

Gutierrez said that at around 8:30 p.m., a PDEA undercover agent posing as a buyer was able to hatch a transaction with Gomez after a series of negotiations.

He added that the suspect agreed to rendezvous with the poseur-buyer outside a popular Spanish restaurant in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Upon the pre-arranged signal, joint operatives of PDEA Intelligence and Investigation Service (PDEA-IIS) under Director Zoilo M. Lachica and Taguig City Police, in coordination with the Office of Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, swooped down on the suspect after he received the buy-bust money in exchange for the illegal drug.

Gutierrez said that based on investigation, Gomez is a member of a drug syndicate involved in the proliferation of shabu in Metro Manila, particularly Taguig City.

Gomez is presently under the custody of PDEA-IIS and facing charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
