Gunman kills barangay official in Basilan

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, May 29 -– A barangay official in the municipality of Sumisip, this province, was shot and killed inside his residence in this city on Tuesday afternoon.

Isabela City police commander Supt. Allan Nazarro said the incident took place around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay Tabuk, this city.

Nazarro identified the victim as Din Dabu, 44, the barangay captain of Etub-Etub, Sumisip municipality.

Nazarro said the attending physician at the Basilan Community Hospital (Bascom) has declared Dabu, who sustained five gunshot wounds, dead on arrival.

Nazarro said Dabu was shot and killed with the use of a .45-caliber pistol by suspect Tukul Gapur.

Investigation showed that the victim was eating lunch together with his family members when the suspect barged inside the victim’s residence and opened fire, he said.

He said the family members of the barangay official were unscathed.

The motive of the incident was believed to be personal grudge, he said.

A manhunt was launched to arrest the suspect who fled after the incident. (PNA) RMA/LAM/TPGarcia/utb
