Passenger jeepney rams coconut tree in Quezon town; 15 hurt

MANILA, May 24 – Fifteen people, including the driver of a passenger jeepney, were hurt after their vehicle rammed a coconut tree in Sampaloc town, Quezon on Wednesday afternoon, the police reported.

Police Officer 2 Silvestre M. Araja Jr., Sampaloc Municipal Police Station investigator, said the accident transpired at around 1:35 p.m. along Quezon Ave., Barangay Bayongon, Sampaloc.

He added that driver John Nilmar Rejano, of legal age, was traveling on the said avenue when his jeepney (DWR-564) lost its brakes and hit a nearby coconut tree, causing injuries to his 14 passengers and himself.

The other victims are identified as Betty Bein, 38; Jennifer Salayo, 6; Angelica Felismino, 15; Marjorie Florido, 34; Aileen Aranillo, 31; Dorabhel Salayo, 29; Grace Madrigal, 30; Dr. Jesus M. Calayan, 49; Carl Lawrence Madrigal, 10; Chona Anareta; Rodolfo Leonido, 64; Maribel Aranillo, 29; Joy Velasco, and Amica Velasco, 3.

They are now in a stable condition even as Rejano is now undergoing investigation for the mishap. (PNA)
