(WEATHER) Rains prevail over Mindanao; Metro Manila sizzles at 34+ degrees Celsius -– PAGASA

MANILA, May 17 — While scattered rain showers prevailed over Mindanao, some parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, experienced 34-plus degrees Celsius on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said the highest temperature registered in the metropolis as of 1:50 p.m. Thursday was 34.3 degrees Celsius at the Science Garden in Quezon City.

Elsewhere in Luzon, Quitlong said Tuguegarao City in Cagayan recorded the highest temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed by Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija with 35, and Dagupan City, Pangasinan, 34.5 degrees Celsius.

Laoag City in Ilocos Norte registered 31.9 degrees Celsius; Clark, Pampanga, 31.7; and Subic, Zambales, 31.3.

Quitlong said that in the Visayas region, Mactan in Cebu registered 32 degrees Celsius, while General Santos City in Mindanao had 30.

Baguio City, the country’s summer capital, was not spared from the warm weather as it experienced 26 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Quitlong said that a tail end of a cold front still bring rains affecting Northern Luzon, while an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affects Mindanao. (PNA)
