MANILA, May 3 – Security authorities in Metro manila, Bicol and caraga regions have arrested four wanted persons, including a local communist guerrilla wanted for rebellion.

CIDG chief Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. identified the arrested communist fighter as Clifford Anton, alias Datu, a leader of a New People's Army's guerrilla front in Surigao Del Sur.

The three others were Marvin M. Virata, 23, of San Pedro, Laguna; Edison Gordo, of Ligao City, Albay; and Jomar O. Escarlan, 27, of North Bay Boulevard in Navotas City.

Pagdilao said Virata, facing charges of murder, ranks 3rd in the list of most wanted in San Pedro, Laguna, while Gordo, also wanted for murder, is 4th in Ligao City, Albay.

Escarlan is himself wanted on two counts of murder and is 9th in the most wanted list in Navotas City.

Around 5:45 a.m. Thursday, joint CIDG, police and Army units arrested Anton in Barangay Tambis, Barobo, Surigao Del Sur on the strength of an arrest warrant for rebellion.

No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

Last Monday, CIDG agents and police arrested Gordo in Barangay Rawis, Libon, Albay.

The court likewise did not recommend bail for Gordo's temporary liberty.

Last Tuesday, CIDG units in Metro Manila arrested Escarlan in Barangay North Bay Boulevard in Navotas City on two counts of murder and robbery.

On April 26, Virata was arrested by the CIDG following a warrant issued by the San Pedro Regional Trial Court.

Pagdilao attributed the CIDG success in the arrests to the active involvement of the CIDG’s volunteer group, the Community Investigative Support, which he said played a big part in gathering needed information. (PNA)
