MANILA, April 30 — In connection with Tuesday's Labor Day celebration, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo urged all leaders of militant groups to police their ranks and prevent their members from doing anything illegal and violent that may force police officers to perform their mandate.

“While we recognize the Labor Day protesters’ right to air their grievances against the government, it is also their duty to maintain peace and order and to be vigilant against saboteurs who may infiltrate them, and provoke and instigate violence among their ranks during the rallies,” he said.

Robredo explained that it is illegal for militant groups to engage in violent demonstrations just to get their message across or for any political purposes.

"We should maintain peace and order during those rallies so that at the end of the day, everybody goes home unharmed," the DILG chief stressed. (PNA) DCT/scs/PFN
