Holdup suspect killed in Makati

MANILA, April 24 — A police officer killed one of the two armed men who held up passengers and conductor of Alabang Metrolink Bus of cash and valuables along EDSA in Makati City on Monday night.

Supt. Jaime Santos, Makati City police officer in-charge identified the fatality as Carlo Barcelon, 35, resident of 2472 Tramo St., Pasay City.

Barcelon died instantly after succumbing to gunshot wound in his body after trading shots with one of the bus passengers, Police Officer 2 Herbert Baylon of Marikina Tactical Operations Center.

PO3 Wilfredo Alvarez of Homicide Section of Makati Police said the two suspects boarded the bus, with licensed plate number TYV 844, in Guadalupe area at about 11 p.m. Monday. The suspects declared a holdup a few minutes after boarding.

Alvarez said that Baylon immediately declared he was a policeman to one of the robbers. But instead of surrendering, one of the robbers who was later identified as Barcelon, exchanged gun fires with the police officer, resulting in his death.

Meanwhile, the unidentified robber also traded shots with Baylon but after he saw his companion fell down, he hurriedly alighted the bus and fled with passengers' cash and valuables and the P18,000 earnings of the bus conductor. (PNA) DCT/RMA/CLTC
