ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 23 – Vicenzo Sagun in Zamboanga del Sur will soon have a P2 million disaster management and evacuation center in cases of calamities, landslides or floods in the town. Mayor Edilberto Adlaon led local officials in the formal groundbreaking rites for the project Thursday at the back of the municipal building. Interior Director Abcede Asjali said the activity was witnessed by municipal officials and various stakeholders including some from the province of Zamboanga del Sur. Asjali said part of the fund for the project in the amount of P1 million came from the DILG given to the town on Nov. 22, 2011 as reward for winning the search for Seal of Good Housekeeping can now be used in the construction of the building. The amount, Asjali said, is part of the P6.1-B millennium development fund of President Aquino from his recent working visit to the United States to assist the Philippine government in implementing Millennium Development Goals until 2015. On the other hand, town mayor Adlaon said he allocated P1 million from the coffers of the town as their counterpart to complete the P2 million needed for the implementation of the project. Adlaon said of the amount, P600,000.00 will be used to purchase one unit of an ambulance for the center. Meantime, the DILG provincial director praised the municipalities of V. Sagun and San Pablo, respectively for being the top two out of the 26 towns. The mayor thanked the national government welfare programs extended to their town, saying these will greatly help alleviate the poor living condition of the people.
