DUMAGUETE CITY, March 22 — Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 12 Director Perfecto Aranas is confident that Revenue District -79 Dumaguete Office can attain its tax collection goal despite the twin calamities that struck Negros Oriental. He strongly believes that RDO-79 can hit the goal being the consistent top performer among the revenue districts under BIR Region 12.

Director Aranas admitted that the effects of the calamity will have an impact on the tax collection especially in the areas of the first congressional district of Negros Oriental that was greatly devastated by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake last February 06.

But Director Aranas clarified that they will not lose hope in their aim to achieve the target tax collection since there are plenty of other ways to collect taxes.

The BIR Region 12 has a total tax goal collection of P6.147 billion which is 17 percent higher compared to the actual collection in 2011 while RDO-79 Dumaguete has a total tax goal of P1.404 billion or 14.4 percent higher compared to the actual collection of 2011.

According to Director Aranas, the directive from the commissioner encourages all revenue districts to improve and saturate the information and education campaign in order to improve the awareness of the taxpayers.

The RDO-79 formally launched Thursday the campaign with the tagline of “I love Philippines, I Pay Taxes which kicks off the campaign for the filing and payment of Income Tax.

The deadline of the filing of income tax will be on April 16, 2011. (PNA) RSV/jfp/Maricar Aranas
