SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, March 19 – The Regional Development Council (RDC) in Region 1 is now the only RDC in the country without a chairman.

This was confirmed by Director Jose Ngalob of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) who presides meetings of RDC as acting chairman in the absence of a chairman appointed by President Benigno Aquino III.

It was learned that the President has yet to act on the recommendation of the body for the appointment of Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Chavit Singson as number one nominee as well as Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. as number two nominee for the post of RDC chairman.

RDC 1 also passed another resolution recommending Dr. Roberto de los Reyes, representing the non-government organizations as chairman of RDC 1.

When there was no word that President Aquino was appointing De Los Reyes, RDC recommended Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, president of the Lyceum-Northwestern University in Dagupan who is private sector representative to that body, to be the chairman.

Ngalob, who took over from former NEDA Regional Director Leonardo Quitos, said despite the absence of a chairman appointed by the President, the RDC in Region 1 is performing its duties well as the leading developmental planning body in Region 1.

NEDA acts as secretary of the RDC which comprises of four governors, nine city mayors, president of the League of Municipalities provincial chapters, regional directors of government line agencies and representatives of the private sector and non-government organizations. (PNA)
