“Notorious” robbery suspect nabbed in Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY, March 19 – A man believed to be behind a series of robbery/theft incidents in Dumaguete City and other nearby areas in Negros Oriental is now under police custody after civilians apprehended him Sunday following a pickpocketing incident in this capital.

Initial police investigation showed the suspect, identified as a certain Dionisio Sangkol, 41, a resident of the sub-village of Canday-ong in Calindagan, Dumaguete City, allegedly grabbed the handbag of a woman inside a passenger multi-cab along Hibbard Avenue in this city.

The victim was identified as a certain Marivic Blanco of Guihulngan City in northern Negros Oriental, who almost lost P10,000 to the suspect, the police report said.

As the suspect disembarked, civilians were alerted when somebody from the passenger multi-cab shouted, prompting them to put up chase which resulted to the arrest of the suspect.

Authorities are calling on victims of previous similar robbery and theft incidents to proceed to the Dumaguete police station to possibly identify the suspect.

Earlier, some citizens had reported having lost money to pickpockets on separate occasions whether on a passenger vehicles or a motorcycle-for-hire or “pedicab”. (PNA) DCT/JFP
