New homes for former Makati informal settlers

Former squatter families living along river banks, creeks, under bridges and vacant private or government lots in Makati City have been given a fresh start at life in their new homes at Gawad Kalinga (GK) Dreamland Ville, a 3.2-hectare relocation site in Barangay Kaypian, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan. The housing project is a joint undertaking of the Makati local government and Gawad Kalinga, a non-stock, non-profit foundation, to provide a decent and livable community for almost 400 families living in depressed areas in Makati’s Barangays Carmona, Sta. Cruz, Poblacion, Pembo and Kasilawan. (PNA photos by Jess M. Escaros Jr.)
