MANILA, March 8 — Armed men, believed to be members of the New People's Army (NPA)'s Guerrilla Front 16B swooped down on a quarry site in Sitio Aton, Barangay Danao, Surigao City, burning down P8 million worth of heavy equipment Thursday morning.

Destroyed in the NPA attack were two payloaders and one dump truck owned by a certain Mr. Felix Chua of Surigao City.

Authorities theorized that the assault was fueled by the alleged failure of Chua to give in to the group's extortion demand.

Elements of the 30th Infantry “Python” Battalion ,under Lt. Col. Vincent Iringan are now conducting pursuit operations to catch the perpetrators of this act, while the local police are now preparing the legal complaint that shall be filed to make those criminals accountable.

“If indeed the NPAs were the ones responsible for this incident, it only proves that what they have and what they fight for as an organization are based on senseless and selfish interests only. This is no longer about ideology and principles; this is only about the sickening greed of each member to accumulate wealth and money without any consideration to the effect of this on our hungry and suffering brothers and sisters," 4th Infantry Division chief Major Gen. Victor A. Felix stated. (PNA)
